Made in Maryland, Sold in Greater College Park

Shop Made in Maryland opens Friday in a similar location, just past the south entrance to the University of Maryland. Located on the first floor of College Park’s City Hall building, the store features jewelry, artwork, ceramics, food and beverages, stationery, clothing and more—all created by Maryland-based artists and makers.

Commanders to Move Business Operations to Discovery District

Dr. Craig Lawrence has been Named Interim ARLIS Executive Director

Dr. Craig Lawrence has been named interim ARLIS executive director, replacing Dr. William Regli. Dr. Regli stepped down from the role after serving for five years. As interim executive director, Dr. Lawrence will guide the strategic direction of ARLIS, identify new opportunities for growth and collaboration and facilitate ARLIS researchers' engagement with the broader campus community. Dr. Lawrence has served as a research scientist and mission area director at ARLIS since 2019.

IonQ endows professorship at UMD

In December 2022, IonQ established a professorship in the College of Computer, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences thanks to a $1 million gift which was matched by the Maryland E-Nnovation Initiative. “The IonQ Professorship will be held by a faculty member in either the Department of Physics or the Department of Computer Science who conducts quantum computing research” according to the announcement in Maryland Today.

D.C.-area universities are altering their campuses to help attract, and keep, tomorrow’s workforce

The 150-acre Discovery District, formerly known as M Square research park, has been years in the making as a research and innovation hub for the University of Maryland. The goal is to spin out companies, connect students with internships and jobs locally on campus, and provide those employers with talent, as well as to deepen a focus on quantum computing and climate research, Pines said.
