Our Community

Greater College Park, which encompasses historic districts, up-and-coming new neighborhoods and a bustling downtown, is welcoming a swath of amenities, including hotels, retailers, restaurants and recreation.

$300M Project Set to Reimagine Campus Drive Intersection

A sleek development for research, offices, retail and housing will rise at the main gateway to the University of Maryland through a new partnership announced this month. The Terrapin Development Company (TDC)—a partnership between the university and the University of Maryland College Park Foundation—and Philadelphia-based Brandywine Realty Trust are planning a $300 million development at the southeast corner of Campus Drive and Baltimore Avenue. It will span five acres across from The Hotel at the University of Maryland and Paint Branch Stream Valley Park and be located near the future Purple Line.

A New Vision for College Park

In less than a decade, the University of Maryland and city of College Park could launch a community preservation trust to stabilize neighborhoods and help more employees live in College Park, create more bike paths, and reap benefits from a fully renovated Baltimore Avenue south of University Boulevard as the area continues its progress toward becoming one of the nation’s top college towns. Those initiatives are part of "University Community Vision 2030," a strategic plan formally adopted last night by university, city, county and state government officials to guide the next decade of housing and development, transportation and mobility, public health and safety, and education.

UMD Spinoff IonQ Opens New Data Center in Greater College Park

Quantum computing startup IonQ, founded in 2015 based in part on technology licensed from the University of Maryland, has opened a quantum data center in the University of Maryland’s Discovery District, the company announced today.
